10 Natural Skincare Products to Consider Now

Your skin is an essential organ of the body. It is also one of the most prominent aspects of your beauty. People all over the world, especially women, have beauty routines to keep their skin in good condition. They use products like face washes, scrubs, toners, and moisturisers.

However, some of these products contain lots of chemicals. There is a vast amount of information that proves that these chemicals are not only harmful to the skin but the overall body as well. Many of us believe that skin is an exterior organ, therefore, anything applied over it can’t harm other body organs. This concept is wrong. The skin is absorbent. So, in the long run, chemicals will enter your body through the skin.

In an attempt to save people from these chemicals, experts are now promoting the use of natural skincare products. There are many quality organic skincare products available on the market.

We have carefully selected  10 products in this post that we think are worth considering to help you look your best from the inside out

10 ingredients to avoid in your beauty products now

Hey Gorgeous,

A cancer diagnoses is one of the most significant dilemmas of our world. However, life after diagnosis can still be lived with contentment and happiness.

People feel dejected after they have been diagnosed with some form of cancer. It is natural because no one wants to live in pain or have a reduced quality of life. Although, a few precautions and creating a support group around us can help manage life.

As long as you are breathing, don’t let the disease take over your life. Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy can be exhausting and may feel down about things and overwhelmed by all the information that is out there.

A common question I get is “What kind of beauty products should I use during cancer treatment.?

There is so much noise about cancer causing ingredients these days and a few years ago Johnson & Johnson was embroiled in a major scandal involving their Talcum powder.

I am a great advocate for Natural, therapeutic ingredients that actually help to repair your skin especially in its very fragile state.

I also believe, it is important that you are proactive in sourcing the right things for yourself. Browse a product ingredient, ask questions and research thoroughly. You deserve the very best.

By, avoiding a few ingredients, you can still enjoy your beauty routines, especially with natural products.

Here is a quick list of 10 ingredients that cancer patients should avoid while using beauty products:

1.    Alcohol

During chemotherapy, skin can become dry or irritated. Therefore, you have to be careful about the stuff you apply over it. Many beauty products commonly contain alcohol denat. You may have used creams and toners that naturally contain it. Alcohol denat can disrupt the pH of the skin. This leads to unbalanced and unpredictable skin.

2.    Parabens

An example of paraben is the methylparaben. It is still not established if they actually cause any harm but they are associated with hormone disruptors. So if your cancer is oestrogen responsive especially, stay away from them.

3.    Petrochemicals

EU indicates petroleum as a carcinogen. Therefore, they prefer limited usage. However, they are almost in many common beauty products we use throughout the day, especially moisturisers. It is best to avoid them, especially stuff you can ingest like lip balms. Plant butters (Shea and cocoa butter) actually do a better job of moisturising and penetrating  nutrients deeper into the skin.

4.    Formaldehyde

Certain skin care preservatives are reported to release this ingredient. Avoid using a product containing it as, during radiotherapy, skin may react negatively to preservatives.

5.    Triclosan

This is found in toothpaste, body washes, and deodorants. It is known to be an endocrine disruptor and may lead to cancer. Consider alternatives. I will do another post on products that are currently on the market

6.    Lead

Lead is found in more than 60% of lipsticks. It is one of those ingredients that gradually became a problem as companies started to use it more. Why not try a vegan or lead free  lipstick instead

7.    DEA (diethanolamine)

It is found in creamy and foaming products. They can react to form nitrosamines that cause cancer. Natural soaps or castile soap do a better job of cleansing without the addition of DEA'S

8.    BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole)

BHA can be found in makeup and moisturisers. They care known to interfere with hormone function.

9.    Parfum

This is an umbrella term. Even some unscented products may still contain it. It can cause skin irritation and allergies so it is to be avoided during chemotherapy. Essential oils are better alternatives

10.    PEGs (polyethylene glycols)

This is widely used in conditioners, deodorants, and moisturisers. This ingredient can be contaminated with 1, 4 – dioxane, which can lead to cancer.

There are many more harmful ingredients and the list may disappoint you. It makes it very difficult to use the wide range of beauty products in the market. However, you can continue your normal beauty routines during cancer treatment by using trusted natural cosmetics brands like Etie’no.
